Speaktree

2016

“Speaktree” is an art installation that noiseKitchen Art Co., Ltd. designed for Jinqiao International Business Plaza in Shanghai for Christmas 2016. The overall style was based on a Christmas tree. We used several vertical linear columns to constitute an arc-like structure instead of a traditional tree. Inside this “Christmas” tree, we hung 132 newly-innovated water-drop shaped Bluetooth speakers made of porcelain to be the sound-producing media. Underneath the speakers, there were controllable light strips. Due to the design of the programming, the tree not only served as a sound installation, but could also make various light changes that dovetailed with the melody of the musical composition.

“Speaktree” was positioned centrally in a sunken space; together with the surrounding auto-playing mechanism “Spectrum 66”, it provided a music and light show at specific times. This endowed the busy shopping mall with a different, artistic atmosphere while also providing sensational visual and audio pleasure for people who came for recreation.
